Sleep With Your Lax Stick

Sleep With Your Lax Stick

Believe it or not, there are lacrosse players who tuck their lacrosse stick into bed every night. These players are inseparable from their lacrosse stick. When they go running they carry it. When they eat it leans against their chair. When they go to the beach it is the first thing packed, and when they sleep it is no more than a foot away.

I learned about this odd phenomena early on in my playing days and I thought it sounded ridiculous. Of course, I gave the idea a shot. That night I brought my six food defensive stick into my twin bed, feeling more than a little silly. I did not sleep well. In fact, I slept horribly and I put the stick in it’s customary place against the wall and fell into a deep slumber.

Do not let my restless night dissuade you from trying it out because the entire point of sleeping with your lacrosse stick is making the effort to spend as much time as possible with it. Every year I can tell which players have spent time with their lacrosse stick. These are the players who cradle while watching TV. Who take five minutes every day and switch hands. Who find 10-15 minutes a day to play wall-ball. The players putting in that kind of simple effort every day earn more playing minutes than their teammates down the road.

Now, you do not have to sleep with your stick to become an All-Star, but you do need to keep it around you constantly. Eventually, it will cease being a stick and it will become an extension of your body. To aid in this goal here are some wild stick tricks by the Talon Lacrosse Kid. Pick a trick that you want to do and practice that trick. Will you ever do it in a game? NO! Does it keep the stick in your hands and get you more and more familiar with it? YES!
