Ah, the delightfully fun game of Marco-Polo. For those unfamiliar with this favorite game go to your local pool before it closes for the summer. If enough kids are around a game of Marco-Polo will eventually get started in the shallow end.

How Marco-Polo went from renowned explorer of Asia to namesake of a children’s pool game, I will never know. Regardless of how the game got its name, I want to focus on what Marco-Polo removes: sight.

The lacrosse ball signifies action, which is why everyone loves knowing where the ball is. While focusing on the ball is great for a fan, ball watching is one of the worst habits for any player.

The help line is an imaginary line than runs through the middle of the field from goal to goal. Teaching youth players about the help line will help them understand how to push their opponent away from the goal and where to go in an emergency. The diagram below details where the help line is:
