Character: Pass It On

A few days ago I posted about a horrendous lack of sportsmanship on the part of a youth hockey coach. Today I am pleased to show a video that is making its way around the internet and bringing tears to just about everyone who watches it.

Cheers,
Gordon

2013 US Lacrosse National Convention Recap

I’m almost close to being back in the real world following the 2013 US Lacrosse National Convention. Unfortunately, I am still craving cheesesteaks and wishing the convention lasted just a little bit longer. I got to see a lot of old friends from past conventions, officials who moved out of the state, and met a lot of new friends who are doing truly incredible work all over the country through lacrosse. I do want ...

R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

A few months ago I had a small group of young players and I asked the question “what is respect?” The reason I was prompted to ask that question was because the players were disrespecting one another by hitting each other with their sticks while waiting in line during drills. I did not find that behavior particularly becoming of young lacrosse players. So I had everyone sit down in a semi circle around me and we discussed respect. Since that ...

Chess Club

I’m not sure if it was my idea or my parent’s idea for me to join the Esther Jackson Elementary Chess Club, but I am  glad I was introduced to chess at a very early age. I started learning chess in the fourth grade and I’ve been playing ever since. I don’t remember my chess teacher’s name, but as far as I was concerned he was a chess master. I never beat him, but he always taught me something new ...

Over the last week I got to coach with my good friend and fellow official Andy Halperin. We ran U9 Polar Bear clinics, the U11/U13 ...

Ender’s Game

Ender’s Game

Many coaches cite coaching legends as their inspiration for their particular coaching style. While my Dad and John Wooden are my two favorite coaches, I gained many insights into working with young players from the book Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card. If you are unfamiliar with the novel, here is a brief synopsis from amazon.com:

In order to develop a secure defense against a hostile alien ...

The 2013 US Lacrosse National Convention

I am pleased to announce that my father, Lou Corsetti, and I will be speaking at the 2013 US Lacrosse National Convention! This is my Dad’s fourteen time speaking at the convention, but it is my very first and I am incredibly excited. Being selected as a presenter is a tremendous honor, and I am looking forward to representing Atlanta Youth Lacrosse at the convention.

So what in the world ...

Sweating and Smiling

Sweating and Smiling

How does the staff at Atlanta Youth Lacrosse judge a successful day of games? Simple – if the kids leave our fields sweating and smiling we’ve had a great day.

I was speaking to my dad, Lou Corsetti, this past evening about how the 2012 Fall Ball season was wrapping up at AYL. We agreed that, from our perspective, each kid we see after a game is sweating, smiling and seems to be loving life because they are playing a sport ...
